Almost half of Transnistrian population has foreign citizenship

As declared the leader of unrecognized Transnistrian republic, Igor Smirnov, about 220 thousand inhabitants of Transnistria are citizens of Russia and Ukraine.

"96 thousands of our citizens already have Ukrainian passports" - Smirnov said on Monday at press conference in Moscow.

Smirnov also said that additional 120 thousand inhabitants of Transnistria are citizens of Russia.

According to the regional office of statistics, the estimated population of Transnistria, as of October 2010, is 522.5 thousands people.
